O-I Expands Operations in Peru, Reorganizes Global Management

Owens-Illinois, Inc. announced it is building a new glass container manufacturing facility in Lurin, Peru, based on existing and growing demand in the local glass container market and region. The $34 million investment will use existing O-I equipment and technologies from around the world. Construction begins this month, and the plant is expected to be operational in the second half of 2007. The new facility, in a district south of Lima, will replace production currently being imported from other countries and regions to support local demand, which has exceeded current capacity. At present, the company operates one facility in Peru. In addition, O-I, announced a reorganization of its global management team in order to ensure an increased focus on execution. The company has created the new role of president, Global Glass Operations, naming Rich Crawford to this position, who was previously president of Latin America Glass. Reporting to Crawford will be the presidents of European, North American, Asia Pacific, and Latin American glass operations as well as the global leaders of supply chain, procurement, manufacturing and engineering, glass account management and corporate sustainability.
